Songs and Videos that Inspire Me
Aren't movie soundtracks great? In the 90s, the movie soundtracks to "Pulp Fiction," "Romeo and Juliet," and "City of Angels" spurned monster hits that were everywhere. Outside of just compiling great songs, however, soundtracks also remind me that they exist. And that we can create our own.
"Message in a Bottle" - The Police
"Message in a Bottle" is by far my favorite Police song - which is saying something because I really love the Police. It's a reminder that as a creative person you put so much of yourself out there and eventually it'll come back to you in the form of a hundred million bottles. Even though I don't have a hundred million followers, or dollars, or page views, I still like the metaphor.
"Walt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967" - John Mayer
The idea of burying himself alive in a basement on a project resonates. When I work on a project it is all consuming. And I usually have to wait until after the kids are dropped off at school or asleep in bed to get to work on it. It's dark. I'm by myself. And I'm working and creating. And it's all that I want to do.
