Each Friday Annie Schiffmann hosts What I Learned This Week an Instagram Live show to find out what artists have learned about promoting their work on social media. Annie is on vacation at the Jersey Shore this week, but still sneaked in some time to share what we’ve learned with Downstage in the past few days. This week: a use case for IG’s Close Friends function and making clear bot directions.
IG Close Friends Use Case
Instagram has the Close Friends function which allows you to only show certain stories to certain people. You can read more about what it is and how to use it here. For your personal brand you can be more literal and only add your Close Friends to this list. But when you’re managing a brand, we found it’s helpful to put your most engaged audience members on this list. Then, every so often put up a story that allows them to get something for free - a free drink in your lobby’s cafe, 2-for-1 ticket discounts, or a free download.
It’s another way to add community and make your nearest and dearest fans feel special.
FB Messenger Bot Help
Facebook Messenger marketing is an excellent tool to get your audience to engage with your brand on Facebook. There are a number of ways that theater people can use it for their brand’s FB Pages. (For more, start here) One quick tip we’ve picked up? Be sure to be extra clear in what you want your user to do. If there is a button that they should click, be sure to tell them to “tap below.” What may be obvious to you as the bot maker may not be obvious to everyone - and that could make your bot not engage properly.
