Mailchimp Certification, What Does It Mean? A Guide.

It can be hard to make the most of your email marketing. You don’t have the time to learn how to send out more than a quick blast but you don’t have the time to learn anything more. Annie Schiffmann is Mailchimp Certified and takes you through how that special training can help you reach your goals for your company.

Whether you’re trying to get a product or a project off the ground, or spread the word about your company, you’re going to need to use email to reach your audience. You don’t want to pay big marketing agency fees, but you don’t want to just hand it off to someone on your staff who may or may not know what they’re doing. And your time is better used somewhere else than figuring out the difference between a group and a tag and a segment. That’s why a credential like Mailchimp certification is so important.

It’s very easy to feel skeptical when someone says they can handle your email marketing for you.

The fact of the matter is, though, that your work deserves to be seen. And your work deserves a pros hands to make sure your message gets delivered to your audience’s inboxes. And that your audience is opening them and taking action. Seeking out someone who is Mailchimp Certified is a great first step.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Deciding to Become Mailchimp Certified

I realized in 2021 that I had been using Mailchimp for my clients for around ten years. It was at that point that I decided to learn the ins and outs of this one email marketing platform, versus having a casual understanding of many different kinds (like Keap, Hubspot, and Constant Contact). I chose to go wide versus deep on Mailchimp since it’s what I had been using the longest for clients and what most of my clients were already using.

Also, I hate grasping around and learning another platform. I just feel like that’s time I’m taking away from doing the actual stuff that I’m good at (like marketing strategy, messaging, and creating content) . Having to learn all of those platforms meant always dealing with learning curves. No thanks. I’d rather learn one platform and understand it’s updates versus constantly feeling like I’m missing something.

So I went to Mailchimp Academy during a Super Bowl weekend in 2021 and got down to business.

What Mailchimp Certification Training Entails

Currently, Mailchimp offers three different kinds of certification: Foundations, Email Marketing, and Automations. I’ve been certified in two out of three - Foundations and Email Marketing.

Foundations gives you training in all aspects of Mailchimp. First, how to Collect contacts, then how to Organize contacts with tags, groups, and lists. Next is how to Personalize their experience with segmentation and automation.

Then how to use all aspects of Mailchimp’s robust platform (like landing pages, social media posts, and postcards) to reach those contacts. Finally, how to Optimize the contact’s experience with more advanced tools, like A/B testing.

Mailchimp’s Email Marketing certification Determining Email Marketing Strategy, Building Marketing Emails, and Ensuring Your Emails Hit the Inbox.

After taking the classes, I couldn’t get certified in Mailchimp until I passed assessment tests. It definitely took me a few go ‘rounds before I was able to ace them because I wanted to be sure I was absolutely solid on the material.

You Know There’s More to Mailchimp, But…

People often say to me, I know that there is a lot more to Mailchimp, but I only know how to send out blasts. And that’s okay! One of the benefits that you get from working with me - to either write your campaigns for you or coach you through them - is that I know all of those ins and outs. So you get the benefit of an expert on the platform so you know that you get the most out this service that you most likely are paying at least a small fee for.
